A Good Day

I often get caught up in the long-term aspects of my life. What am I going to do after graduating university? Will I move to another place to start my career? What is my 20-year high school reunion going to be like?

Some are valid questions while others are pretty dumb. Either way, they are all things that I can’t directly affect right here right now.

By constantly looking into the future, it is easy to let time pass without doing too much. And honestly, this thought scares me.

The last thing I want is to be so enveloped into something far off that I forget about today. Firstly, things rarely play out the way you think they will. Secondly, each day is a new gift to be experienced.

Although planning ahead is by no means a waste of time, focusing on today is vital.

And that is why my challenge for you this week is this:

Choose a day this week and make your goal to have a good day, whatever that means to you. Maybe it’s spending time with a loved one or going for a walk. Maybe it’s playing an instrument or doing your future self a favor like cleaning the kitchen. It could be one thing or a combination of many.

Maybe it has nothing to do with your specific actions but relates to your attitude or perception. Either way, you know what a good day is to you far better than I do.

By doing this, your good days will turn into good weeks. Good weeks into good months. Good months into good years. And good years into a good life.

Even the bad days that will inevitably come can’t stop your momentum.

The point is, don’t get caught sticking your head too far into the future, and focus on today. It’s all you got.

Keep making progress. Change for the better. Live the Heming-way.

Til next time,

Trevor
