Imagined Troubles - 5/27
“We suffer more in imagination than in reality”
- Seneca, ancient Stoic philosopher
While problems may seem abundant, how many of them are actual problems?
I tend to imagine I have all these problems all the time. I’m behind on work, I don’t have time to see friends, my car needs an oil change.
Despite these things, I step back and ask myself, “Do I have a problem right now, in this very moment?”
Most of the time, the answer is no. I am either dreading something from the past or worrying about something in the future. But who knows what will happen in the future? We all have plans, but the world doesn’t really care about those.
So how dumb is it that we get caught up in all this?
I sit in the comfort of my home convincing myself that I should be stressed from things not happening right now…
yeah, doesn’t make much sense.
Remind yourself that you are here in this moment. You are not of the past or future. Take a deep breath, take a step back, and get out of your head. Don’t imagine problems that aren’t really there.
Keep making progress. Change for the better. Live the Heming-way.
Til next time,
Trevor
