Unlocking Mindfulness and Heart-to-Heart Talks: The Hemingway Post #3đź“–

Howdy,

Welcome to the third edition of The Hemingway Post. I understand that you’re busy, so today we are trying a shorter format. I hope you like it, and let’s dive in.

Two Insights

  1. We all tend to regret things in our past and worry about things in our future, but this takes away from the present moment, where our time, energy, and thoughts should be(most of the time). Next time you notice yourself slipping away from the here and now, try “flaring” your senses. What do I mean by this? Put your absolute focus on what you see, hear, or touch. Put every ounce of yourself into one of these senses, and feel your body solidify into the present moment. It only takes a few seconds and can save you a lot of headache.

  1. Small talk has its place when we communicate with others, but deeper talks are often overlooked and undervalued. Having heart-to-heart conversations with those we truly trust can have positive effects on mental health and emotional well-being. How can we do this? The most important part is asking good questions that reveal the character of the person you’re talking to and being genuinely interested in what they say. It may feel daunting at first, but give it a try and you won’t regret it.

Two Resources

  1. James Clear and Ryan Holiday podcast

    1. Authors James Clear and Ryan Holiday talk about how to get 1 percent better every day. This podcast is packed with so much value on how to create better habits, stick to them, and ultimately succeed because of them.

  2. Nathaniel Drew video on feeling behind in life

    1. Youtuber Nathaniel Drew says that we shouldn’t compare our lives to one another because they are all unique. This video explains how we can change our outlook on life to leave us happier and more fulfilled.

Two Quotes

  1. “We suffer more often in imagination than in reality”  -Seneca

  2. “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity”  -Albert Einstein

Two Questions

  1. What are your three most important values and how are your actions reflecting them?

  2. What is the most important lesson you ever learned?

I hope you enjoyed this week’s post. Remember, this information means nothing if you don’t apply what you learned, and that’s completely up to YOU. See you next Monday,
