Values

In partnership with

Sometimes, I don’t go to the gym and work out when I’m scheduled to. Other times, I lack the courage to confront someone when needed.

Why? I know the right decisions in these moments, but why don’t I act in accordance with them?

Comfort.

It’s because the other way is easier; Less conflict, less effort.

However, time and time again I learn that I can’t make decisions based on comfort.

It’s comfortable for me to use social media all day, but that doesn’t do any good for me. On the side of the spectrum, I could stab my leg with a pencil, but that doesn’t do any good either despite it being uncomfortable. Actually, thats just really stupid.

So ‘comfortability’ isn’t a good guage on how I should live my life.

If thats the case, how should I live my life? What criterion do I use to make my decisions?

Values.

If I value my fitness, I’ll go to the gym no matter how uncomfortable it is. If I value moral courage, I’ll stand up for what is right even if it involves confrontation.

And the thing I value most in my life is my faith. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I’m called to uphold the values that he does. Not just when its convenient, easy, or comfortable, but also when its inconvenient, difficult, or uncomfortable.

To become who I’m called to be, I must make value-based decisions instead of comfort-based ones.

Honestly, this is one of my weak points, and thats why I chose the topic for this week. It is by no means easy to work on this persepctive change, much less actualize it in daily life.

However, I ask that you join me on this road by defining your own values and constantly working to uphold them.

We will no doubt stumble, but I promise the effort is worth the reward.

Keep making progress. Change for the better. Live the Heming-way.

Til next time,

Trevor
